Made by Acoma artisan Veronica Lewis, this piece of hand etched acoma pottery will be a beautiful addition to your home or make a unique gift.
The artist uses horsehair on this pottery to give it the unique textured look you see here. White clay is shaped, then horse hair is laid over it before it is fired. The horse hair burns into the pottery in the heat of the kiln, giving it a fascinating look. After firing, the design is carved into the finish, cutting away the shades of gray and black, so that the motif stands out in white relief.
