The Sand Creek Massacre Exhibition Companion Book

The Sand Creek Massacre was the deadliest day in Colorado’s history, and it changed Cheyenne and Arapaho people forever. At sunrise on November 29, 1864, the US Army attacked a camp of mostly women, children, and elders on Big Sandy Creek in southeastern Colorado. The soldiers murdered more than 230 peaceful people.

This is the companion book to The Sand Creek Massacre: The Betrayal that Changed Cheyenne and Arapaho People Forever exhibition at the History Colorado Center. The exhibition shares the histories handed down among Cheyenne and Arapaho descendants of the massacre's survivors. It was created in partnership with the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe, the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of the Northern Cheyenne Reservation, Montana, and the Northern Arapaho Tribe of the Wind River Reservation, Wyoming.
